Traffic Ticket and Moving Violation Defense Attorney in the Hudson Valley

What are the penalties for traffic violations by junior drivers?

The penalties are more severe for drivers holding a junior license.

A junior license is indicated by a “dj” or “mj” printed on the license. Junior licenses are held by individuals in the 16 to 18 year age group. Junior licensees may drive between the hours of 5am and 9pm without supervision. There must not be more than one passenger in the vehicle under 21 years of age unless the passenger is a member of his or her immediate family.

A junior permit, license and driving privileges will be suspended for 60 days if that driver is convicted of one serious traffic violation or two other violations while the driver holds a junior license. A serious violation is a ticket that carries 3 or more points. So, if the driver pleads guilty to a ticket of three points or more, or a speeding ticket, their license will be suspended.

And after the 60 day suspension, if the driver is convicted of another violation within six months, their license will be revoked for 60 days. And it just escalates from there, for repeat convictions.

The first conviction on a cell phone or texting ticket, for a junor licensee, will result in a license suspension for 120 days.
